Hello, and a warm welcome to this blog. My name is Stuart Fitzgerald, and I'm a qualified person-centred counsellor based in Northampton. I'm so glad you've found your way here — whether you're exploring counselling for the first time or returning to it, taking this step takes real courage.
Who I Am
I have over 40 years of experience working in mental health. This includes time spent in HMP establishments and as a volunteer with Age UK Northamptonshire's Bereavement Counselling Service. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am fully insured, GDPR compliant, and hold Advanced DBS clearance.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of sitting with people through some of life's most difficult moments. I have seen, time and again, what it means to feel truly heard.
What Person-Centred Counselling Means
Person-centred counselling puts you at the heart of every session. There are no fixed agendas, no pressure to reach a particular destination, and no judgement. You set the pace. You decide what to explore. My role is simply to be present with you — genuinely, warmly, and without condition.
I believe that when people feel truly understood, something shifts. Clarity emerges. Courage grows. The strength that was always within you becomes easier to access.
What to Expect
I offer a free initial consultation. This allows us to meet, talk through what's brought you here, and see whether working together feels right for you — with absolutely no obligation. Everything shared in our sessions is held in the strictest confidence.
If you're based in or around Northampton and are ready to take that first step, I'd love to hear from you. You don't have to have everything figured out — you just have to reach out.
The Importance of Seeking Support
Seeking support is not a sign of weakness. It is one of the bravest things you can do. Many people feel uncertain about reaching out for help. It’s perfectly normal to feel this way. I want to reassure you that taking this step can lead to profound personal growth.
Understanding Your Feelings
When we begin to explore our feelings, it can be overwhelming. You may feel a mix of emotions, from fear to hope. This is a natural part of the process. I am here to help you navigate these feelings. Together, we will create a safe space where you can express yourself freely.
Building a Therapeutic Relationship
The relationship we build is crucial. Trust is the foundation of effective counselling. I aim to create an environment where you feel safe and supported. This allows you to open up and share your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement.
The Journey of Self-Discovery
Counselling is a journey of self-discovery. As we work together, you may uncover aspects of yourself that you were not aware of. This can be enlightening and empowering. You will learn more about your strengths and how to harness them.
Finding Clarity and Strength
Through our sessions, clarity will emerge. You will begin to see your challenges from a new perspective. This can lead to increased courage and the ability to face difficulties head-on. You will discover the strength that has always been within you.
Embracing Change
Change can be daunting. However, it is often necessary for growth. I will support you as you embrace change in your life. Together, we will explore what changes you wish to make and how to take those steps.
Conclusion
Thank you for being here. I look forward to walking alongside you. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. I am here to support you every step of the way.
— Stuart
