My Counselling Philosophy
I became a counsellor because I believe that every single person, regardless of where they've come from or what they're carrying, deserves to feel genuinely heard. Not fixed. Not advised. Not judged. Simply heard.
Over the past 40 years working in mental health, I've sat with people in some of their darkest and most vulnerable moments. And what I've learned, time and time again, is that people don't need someone to have all the answers. They need someone who will stay, steadily, warmly and without condition, while they find their own.
That is what person-centred counselling means to me. It's not a technique or a formula. It's a way of being with another person. A genuine belief that you are the expert in your own life, and that my role is simply to create the conditions where your own clarity, courage and strength can emerge.
I am guided by three things in every session, warmth, honesty and deep respect. Warmth because healing happens in safe relationships. Honesty because you deserve a counsellor who is real with you. And respect because your story, your pace and your choices belong entirely to you.
Reaching out for support takes courage. I never take that lightly. Every time someone walks through my door, or picks up the phone, I am honoured to be trusted with that moment.
"Nurturing strength, one conversation at a time."
